【時報訊】由聖路易本地區Dance St. Louis 180位年輕舞者及享譽世界Jeffrey芭蕾舞團擔綱演出之著名聖誕舞劇「胡桃夾子」NUTCRACKER，訂12月3日至6日在聖路易福斯(FOX)劇院演出六場，這是繼2007年此劇在福斯劇院轟動演出後再度來到聖路易，180位舞者中有四位華裔小舞星加入演出，他們是9歲Kaitlyn M. Lee(李美伶)，13歲的Stephanie M. Lee(李美絲), 12歲的Jennifer Johns, 及11歲的Weik Abigail。
芭蕾舞劇《胡桃夾子》是世界上最優秀的芭蕾舞劇之一，它之所以能吸引千千萬萬的觀眾，一方面是由於它有華麗壯觀的場面、詼諧有趣的表演，但更重要的原因是柴科夫斯基的音樂賦予舞劇以強烈的感染力。
「胡桃夾子」芭蕾舞劇聖路易12月之六場演出分別是12月3日、4日晚間7時半，12月5日下午二時及七時半，12月6日下午一時及六時，每場開演前並有為孩子準備45分鐘之故事解說節目，票價20元起，在福斯劇院窗口發售或可電Dance St. Louis購票314-534-6622。
在聖路易本地選出參加演出之青少年舞者係在今年9月20日舉行之公開評選中入選，而後展開每週末之排演練習而上場。Dance St.Louis為每一位角色作了重複準備，加倍讓更多對芭蕾舞有天賦和興趣的孩子們有上場演出的機會。
《胡桃夾子》劇本是根據德國名作家霍夫曼的童話《胡桃夾子和鼠王》改編的，全劇共分兩幕，描繪了兒童的獨特天地。舞劇的音樂充滿了單純而神秘的神話色彩，具有強烈的兒童音樂特色。劇情大致為：聖誕節，女孩瑪麗得到一隻胡桃夾子。夜晚，她夢見這胡桃夾子變成了一位王子，領著她的一群玩具同老鼠兵作戰。後來又把她帶到果醬山，受到糖果仙子的歡迎，享受了一次玩具、舞蹈和盛宴的快樂。
《胡桃夾子》首齣芭蕾舞劇由佩蒂巴編舞，音樂巨匠柴可夫斯基作曲，1892年於聖彼德堡首演，經歷個多世紀，《胡桃夾子》已成為世界各地聖誕必選節目。
《胡桃夾子》芭蕾舞劇內容簡介如下：小克拉拉盼望了很久的聖誕節終於來到了。夜幕降臨，聖誕樹上點起了小蠟燭，就像是樹上結滿了神秘的小紅果。今天，每一件事情都叫孩子們高興。最使孩子們激動地要數特爾薩亞叔叔裝扮的“聖誕老人”了。
“聖誕老人”背著盛滿玩具的大口袋，走到孩子們中間，分送聖誕禮物。孩子們就像一群小鳥，歡喜得又叫又跳。
興奮的小克拉拉臉蛋紅彤彤的。她張開雙臂接過一大捧禮物。呀！多可愛的胡桃夾子小人！她尖聲叫起來。這個小人實在太棒了，是她的教父送給她的。其他孩子都有些嫉妒了。
“給我玩玩吧！”“讓我抱一抱行嗎?”克拉拉的弟弟費里淘氣地搶走了胡桃夾子。男孩子們都歡呼起來。他們把小人扔到半空中，像皮球一樣扔來扔去。糟糕，小人摔壞了。男孩子們呼地一下逃散了。小克拉拉傷心地哭了。客人們都走了，聖誕樹上的蠟燭也吹滅了。克拉拉躺在床上翻來覆去怎麼也睡不著。
深夜，只聽當的一聲鐘響，許多許多醜陋的老鼠從四面八方鑽了出來。克拉拉睜開眼睛。奇怪的事情發生了，聖誕樹上的蠟燭竟然自己一閃一閃地亮了。她趕緊跳起來，去看自己受傷的胡桃夾子小人。更奇怪的事情發生了，她的許多玩具、糖果、餅乾都活了，他們正和老鼠展開戰鬥。胡桃夾子雖然受了傷，卻卻率領著一隊玩具兵勇敢地衝鋒陷陣。他打倒了幾隻老鼠，衝到了鼠王跟前。鼠王張開長著尖牙的大嘴，猛撲上來。克拉拉緊張極了,急中生智抓起自己的皮鞋投了過去。皮鞋正好打中了鼠王的腦袋。鼠王翻翻白眼，倒在地上死了。群鼠無首，頓時四散逃走了。
克拉拉救了胡桃夾子的命，小人向她深深鞠了一躬。咦，克拉拉忽然看到胡桃夾子變成了一個風度翩翩的王子。她以為自己看錯了，揉了揉眼睛，仔細一看。沒錯，王子還說起話來："謝謝你，親愛的克拉拉。你願意到果醬山上去遊覽嗎？”“果醬山?"是啊，那是一個奇妙的童話王國。你不是很愛聽童話故事嗎？ “童話王國？太好了。就去嗎？”“這就去。”
克拉拉跟著王子穿過冬天的森林，來到春天的果醬山。漂亮的糖果仙子帶著一群香噴噴的糖果，餅乾迎了出來。為了歡迎善良的克拉拉和王子，糖果仙子在噴水池前挑起了優美的舞蹈。噴泉撒出珍珠似的水珠，鮮花發出芬芳的香氣。糖果仙子像一隻美麗的蝴蝶，在花叢中飛來飛去。在熱烈的掌聲中，一群穿著長筒靴的玩具旋風似地捲了出來。嘿，他們跳的是俄羅斯特列帕克舞啊。瞧他們跳的熱情奔放、喜氣洋洋。咖啡們也跳起來了。他們哼著搖籃曲。一群滑稽的小瓷人跳起了油墨俏皮的中國舞蹈。玩具牧童也來了。他們的舞姿真輕盈,就像踩在鄉村田園的草尖上。小瑪麗不由得想到了鄉下的外婆家。各種糖果載歌載舞。
糖果仙子邀請克拉拉和王子加入他們歡慶的隊伍。他們跳啊跳啊....直到克拉拉醒來，才發現，這是一個夢。

ST. LOUIS, November 20, 2009 - One hundred and eighteen young local dancers will join the world-acclaimed Joffrey Ballet on the stage of the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Tchaikovsky's beloved Christmas ballet for six performances on December 3-6, when Dance St. Louis and AmerenUE present the ultimate holiday entertainment of Nutcracker at the Fox.
Among the cast are Kaitlyn M. Lee, age 9, and Stephanie M. Lee, age 13, of Ballwin, who are sisters; Jennifer Johns, age 12, of Shrewsbury, and Abigail Weik, age 11, of Webster Groves. Stephanie and Jennifer are Nutcracker at the Fox veterans. They were both in the show in 2007, the first time that Dance St. Louis brought the Joffrey Ballet to St. Louis for the production. At that time, Stephanie was with her older sister Jessica. Now she's the big sister in the cast. Stephanie plays a mouse and a "polichinelle," a little clown who hides under the giant skirts of Mother Ginger, a 16-foot-tall puppet designed by Kermit Love of Sesame Street fame. Her sister Kaitlyn is the Chinese Girl Doll. Jennifer and Abigail play guests at the Christmas Eve party that begins the story, the party at which one of their friends is given the toy Nutcracker that will later come alive and lead her into magical adventures.
Performances of Nutcracker at the Fox are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, December 3 and 4; at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5; and at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 6. The story of the ballet will be read for children in the Fox's Marquee Room 45 minutes before every performance.

The Joffrey Ballet's sumptuous storybook production of the seasonal classic evokes the warmth and nostalgia of a 19th-century American Christmas and the adventure and fantasy of a child's imagination. Michael Uthoff, Dance St. Louis artistic and executive director, calls the Joffrey's production "unmatched by any other, a magical evening of theater and dance, an incredible jewel of family entertainment bringing joy for one and all."
The performances unite the Joffrey dancers, the Ballet Orchestra of St. Louis playing Tchaikovsky's music, the Cambiata Singers of the Kirkwood Children's Chorale, and the 118 local dancers from both Missouri and Illinois, who range from age 6 to 15 and play the roles of party guests, mischievous mice, toy soldiers, dolls, angels, and "polichinelles."
The children won their roles at open auditions held in St. Louis on September 20 and have been rehearsing every weekend since. Dance St. Louis has double-cast the performances to give as many children as possible the opportunity to perform.
