I-64 Food Drive Provides More Than 30,000 Meals

ST LOUIS - The Missouri Department of Transportation's I-64 OpeningCelebration food drive totals are in. The food and cash donations duringthe recent "64 Ways To Beat Hunger In St. Louis " Food Drive, held incooperation with Operation Food Search, will provide more than 30,000 mealsto local residents.
The food drive raised a total of $6,884.11 in cash, and collected morethan 3,500 pounds of nonperishable food. The total collection of food andfunds will provide more than 30,000 meals.
During the three-week drive, MoDOT employees and their I-64 projectpartners collected non-perishable food supplies and donated cash throughtheir offices and companies. MoDOT employees contributed more than half ofthe total pounds of food collected during the drive. On Sunday, December 6,members of the general public brought food and cash donations to the I-64Grand Opening Ceremony. Volunteers staffed every ramp to collect the foodand funds, destined to help hungry families throughout the region.
Operation Food Search distributes more than 1.5 million pounds ofperishable and non-perishable food and household items to 300 food pantriesand soup kitchens who offer emergency hunger-relief to nearly 120,000 poorpeople every single month.
