St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley will ask the County Council to pass enabling legislation that allows St. Louis County taxpayers to vote on whether or not they want an elected Assessor.
"As County Executive I am calling for this legislation to insure that County taxpayers decide, first and foremost, when it comes to the issue of an elected Assessor in St. Louis County."
In 2009, legislators in Jefferson City decided that the entire State of Missouri would vote on this issue in November 2010. "This is not a decision that affects any taxpayer outside of St. Louis County. I will stand up for the rights of St. Louis County citizens to make their own decisions, pass their own legislation, and govern thems elves! They are quite capable of doing that."
Dooley's action allows the St. Louis County Council to pass legislation that puts the decision to elect or appoint an Assessor into the hands of St. Louis County citizens.
On Tuesday, May 11 County Executive Dooley will begin the process of placing the issue on the August 3rd ballot. "In this way," said Dooley, "I can ensure that this incredibly important issue is decided by the voters of St. Louis County and St. Louis County only."
Dooley asks citizens to stand strong with him to ensure that St. Louis County issues are determined by St. Louis County Voters. |
