MCCASKILL GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT St. Louis awarded over $800,000 in federal grant funding
U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill announced today (August 26, 2010) that the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Emergency Shelter Grant program will provide the city of St. Louis with a total of $870,894 in federal grant funding.
According to HUD, the Emergency Shelter Grant program provides annual grants to state and local entities to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.
McCaskill believes that federal grants and loans are a positive alternative to earmarks, which in the past have frequently had too little accountability. Competitive merit and need based federal grants and low-interest government loans bring federal assistance to Missouri in an honest and fiscally responsible manner.
