(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) - The storytelling image of Glenn Kage Jr. of Franklin County placed him among the top in the 2010 Focus on Missouri Agriculture Photo Contest, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
Glenn Kage, of Sullivan, won runner-up in The Farmer's Life category for "Yesteryear's Rake," a snapshot of a Mennonite man using traditional agriculture to plow his field. This winning image was chosen out of nearly 500 photos submitted by more than 110 amateur photographers from all regions of Missouri.
"Every farm has a story to tell and this winning photo captured the essence of a great agriculture story," said Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler. "Missourians were given the opportunity to share their favorite photographs with others who share the same love for agriculture. Their images truly showed us the diversity of life on the farm in Missouri."
Photographers submitted photos into four main categories, which included The Beauty of the Farm, The Farmer's Life, The Faces of the Farm and The Pride of the Farm. A fifth category, called Children's Barnyard, was exclusively for photographers age 12 and under. In total, 24 winners were selected by a panel of expert judges consisting of Missouri Department of Natural Resources Public Information Coordinator Scott Myers, Missouri Department of Conservation Art Director Cliff White and Missouri Department of Agriculture AgriMissouri Member Services Coordinator Sarah Gehring.
