St. Louis Community College’s Florissant Valley, Forest Park and Meramec campuses each received more than $1 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Education for Student Support Services (SSS) programs.
The grants cover programming over a five-year period.
The SSS programs at the campuses provide academic and other support services to low-income, first generation or disabled college students to increase student retention and graduation rates, facilitate their transfer from two- to four-year institutions, and foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income and first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities.
Funds will support program services that include
* Academic tutoring,* Intrusive academic advising and counseling,* Financial literacy,* Transfer assistance,* Career exploration,* Cultural/academic enrichment, and* Mentoring.
Approximately 460 students - who meet the eligibility criteria as well as demonstrate high academic need and have the potential for success in a postsecondary institution - will be selected to receive project services.
