【時報訊】全美關注之聖路易地標--拱門重新設計案，在全部49家競爭者中脫穎而出之紐約布魯克林景觀設計公司(Brooklyn)日前進駐聖路易市，開始對這個佔地91公頃，包括聖路易拱門及傑佛森國家紀念公園區展開規劃。59歲的布魯克林公司建築師Van Valkenburgh表示，該公司設計案十分精細美麗，注意到拱門和地面之關連性和景觀需要，尤其是對大地的格外尊重。
布魯克林公司之景觀設計是以一個大型河畔公園區為主題，著重各式不同行人步道及建築、停車、植物、景觀等，至於拱門對面伊利諾州地區，該公司更是做了基本上的重新設計，以使得兩岸景觀相融合，甚至有不同高度之人行步道相連接。
據瞭解，重新設計案中有三座不同型式之橋樑將拱門和兩岸環結一起，這些橋樑是真正的橋，可以使遊客漫步在自然景觀內，更使得地面和鄰近地區相結合。
聖路易拱門建於1947年，由建築師Eero Saarinen設計而成，是一座偉大的建築。但是近20年來，由於跨州高速公路的興建，使得拱門景觀大受破壞，重新設計案將保證拱門附近地面及邊緣地面都能有所整體美化。
布魯克林公司曾設計紐約市內多所公園，例如Hudson River Park哈得森河畔公園及布魯克林橋公園(Brooklyn Bridge Park)，將現代化觀念引進公園景觀設計獲得好評，由該公司接手重新設計之聖路易拱門及國家公園之未來景觀，讓人期待。

A team lead by Brooklyn landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA), designer of both the Brooklyn Bridge Park and Hudson River Park, has won the competition to redesign the 91-acre park around the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, one of the most important monuments and landmarks in the United States. "Our proposal is beautiful and subtle,"says Van Valkenburgh, 59, whose firm beat 49 other contestants from around the world. "We are very aware that the arch and the grounds are a masterpiece and the landscape needs to be extremely respectful and light-handed." |
