Pfizer, a New York drug company with operations in St. Louis, has awarded a $2.1 million grant to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network to develop a program to scientifically evaluate and define the clinical activity of axitinib in various tumor types.
Axitinib is an oral and selective inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors that might play roles in tumor growth and the metastatic progression of cancer.
The compound is being tested by drug company Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) as a possible treatment for cancers including thyroid cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and advanced renal cell carcinoma.
The National Comprehensive Cancer Network is a Fort Washington, Pa.-based nonprofit alliance of 21 leading cancer centers - including the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis - that collaborate to improve the quality and effectiveness of care provided to patients with cancer. |
