Here's a bit of cheery year-end news for St. Louis boosters: We made the top quartile among "Best Cities for Business," according to a ranking last week by MarketWatch. St. Louis grabbed 25th place among the 102 metro areas with populations of 500,000 or more. That's one place higher than in 2009, when St. Louis ranked 26th. The new ranking us just ahead of Chicago and Tulsa, and just behind Charleston and Nashville. Washington, D.C., took first place, based largely on the strength of its economy. Omaha, Boston, Des Moines and Minneapolis rounded out the top five, giving the Midwest a strong showing. California did poorly, with six of its cities in the bottom 10. |
