St. Louis-Area Building Permits Up 5 Percent In 2010

Was 2010 the year building began to bounce back? It looks that way. Permits to build single-family homes in the St. Louis region actually rose for the year, after four years in free-fall, according to new figures from the Home Builders Association of Eastern Missouri.

Yes, they just rose a bit, up 4.8 percent from 2009. And they're still a long way from the salad days of the mid-2000's - the 3,037 permits issued last year is 65 percent fewer than were issued in 2005.

But a gain is a gain, and perhaps the market for new construction is starting to grow again around here.
