The student group Lunar New Year Festival (LNYF)
of Washington University in St. Louis presented its spectacular annual
student-run production on February 4th and 5th at 7PM at Edison Theater. This
year show, titled
¡§Reflections¡¨ after the delicate nature of Year of the Rabbit, delivered a glimpse into Asian culture through the innovation and allure of the Arts.
Lunar New Year Festival at Washington university promotes cultural awareness of Asia’s assortment of different countries. From the frill of Ribbon Dance, to the grace of Chinese and Korean Fan Dances, and to the rhythms of Modern Hip Hop, the mosaic of voices featured in the show represents the consortium of cultures around the world that come together during this time of year to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The high spirited show is the result of a year hard work by students, and will definitely not disappoint.
Every year, LNYF initiates a philanthropy partnership to give back to the St. Louis community. The non-profit organization chosen this year is the International Institute of St. Louis. The organization provides resettlement services, such as tutoring and job assistance, for over 90,000 immigrants and refugees in our city every year, and our hope is to service these immigrants who enrich our St. Louis diversity.
Lunar New Year Festival at Washington University has envisioned to make Asian culture accessible to as many people as possible. LNYF, along with the Asian Multicultural Council, brought fireworks back to WashU for the first time in 10 years on January 30th. |
