On February 4, 2011, president Bill McNair of St. Louis Cold Drawn Steel organized a dinner at Ryce Oriental Buffet to recognize and honor the Chinese New Year. St. Louis Cold Drawn Steel has always enjoyed having great diversity among their staff and team members, including many Chinese. This dinner celebrated this diversity through bringing the team members from all different backgrounds together to participate in a dear Chinese custom. The team members and their families enjoyed their Oriental dinner before Bill hosted a raffle, for which many of the children helped out, giving out prizes ranging from gift certificates to the finest Chinese restaurants in St. Louis to hand crafted items and even sparkling purses.
Followed by Chinese New Year tradition, president McNair prepared a lot of red envelops, with lucky money inside, to give to all children at the party. Red envelope is a monetary gift which is given during holidays or special occasions, especially at Chinese Lunar New Year dinner. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits. In China, red envelopes are handed out to younger generations by their parents, grandparents, relatives, and even close neighbors and friends during Chinese New Year.
The evening, while celebrating the Chinese New Year, was a night for all of the dedicated team members at St. Louis Cold Drawn Steel to enjoy, as well as to spend with their families. |
