St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - An internationally renowned artist is donating an original sculpture to the city to be displayed at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, the St. Louis Airport Commission said Wednesday.
Mayor Francis Slay and the St. Louis Board of Public Service must also approve the donation before the statue can be delivered. Leonardo Niemann's piece, entitled "Sensacion de Vela" (Flying Sensation), is a ten-foot high polished steel sculpture.
Niemann's paintings, sculptures and tapestries have appeared around the world, including The Museum of Modern Art in Mexico, The Gallery of Modern Art in New York, The Vatican Museum in Rome and The Museum of Contemporary Arts in Madrid.
The statue is being presented to the City of St. Louis as a gift of friendship between the Mexican and U.S. governments, as well as a tribute to Mexico's centennial celebration of the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
If approved, placement of the sculpture will be determined at a later date. |
