Judge Judy P. Draper received The Theodore McMillian Award

        On April 26, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. The Black Law Student's Association of St. Louis University Law School along with the BLSA President, Bryan Weaver held it's Annual Judicial Reception at the Sinquefield State Room, in Dubourg Hall.

        The Honorable Judy P. Draper, Associate Circuit Judge of St. Louis County received The Theodore McMillian Award for her many accomplishments and notable contributions to the legal profession. The award was presented by BLSA treasurer, Madonna Corbett. Judge Draper is a former prosecutor for the City of St. Louis; and has served as adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law; Municipal Judge for both Northwoods and Berkeley. She was the first woman of color in the law department of the Monsanto Company World Headquarters, and she was the first female General Counsel for the Missouri Department of Corrections. She was also a law clerk to the Honorable Clyde S. Cahill, Federal District Court Judge.

        Ms. Sheena R. Hamilton, Law Clerk to Federal District Court Judge, Catherine Perry was the recipient of The BLSA Service Award for her tremendous assistance to the Saint Louis University School of Law Black Law Students' Association. The award was presented by BLSA member, Jamille Fields. Ms. Hamilton was a legislative intern for the Tennessee General Assembly; a paralegal in the Office of the Corporate Secretary at American Airlines; a summer law intern at Macy's Inc., and a judicial intern to the Chief Judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals. Following her clerkship, she will join the law firm of Armstrong Teasdale, LLP as an associate.

        Over 75 people were in attendance at the beautiful and newly renovated Dubourg Hallincluding Congressman Lacy Clay, Former Senator, Rita Days now with The Office ofCounty Executive, Charlie Dooley, Supreme Court Judge Michael Wolf, Federal DistrictCourt Judge Catherine Perry.

        Newly appointed Magistrate Judge Nannette Baker introduced all the Judges in the roomincluding Honorable George W. Draper, Court of Appeals Judge for the Eastern Districtof Missouri who was there to honor his wife, Judge Judy P. Draper , recipient of TheTheodore McMillian Award. Other notable attendees were Dr. & Mrs. Riew, Boardmembers of the Korean American Association and Prominent Asian Pacific Attorney, JayKim and retired Judge Don McCullin.

        In addition to the engraved Crystal award given to Judge Draper, she was also graced bya beautiful bouquet of pastel roses from the Turkish American Society, presented by Ms.Emel Kopman. (See Photo, taken by Suzy Gorman)
