ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay says he can't confirm a China Daily report, that the first cargo flights between China and St. Louis will "Take flight in September".
KMOX asked Slay about the report in the paper, which is often considered the voice of the Chinese government, "I can't confirm that, but we've been talking to the Chinese and they seem pretty positive about that happening."
Slay says he does think St. Louis is going to get two or three flights a week, but he says that won't cut it, "That's different from an international investment in cargo hub."
The paper cites sources who say St. Louis is poised to become a key China trade hub.
Slay hopes the report helps convince the governor or legislature to call a special session to pass the "aerotropolis" bill, if they don't, "Then shame on them. This is an opportunity not just for St. Louis but for the entire state and the entire midwest."
