Back to School Sales Tax Holiday - Friday, Aug. 5 runs through Sunday, Aug. 7

By state law, the sales tax holiday begins on the first Friday in August and continues through the following Sunday. In 2011, the three-day holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 7. Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items as defined by the statute, are exempt from sales tax for this time period only.
The sales tax exemption is limited to: Clothing - any article having a taxable value of $100 or less. School supplies - not to exceed $50 per purchase Computer software - taxable value of $350 or less. Personal computers - not to exceed $3,500Computer peripheral devices - not to exceed $3,500
Below are cities that will not participate in the 2011 sales tax holiday. City sales tax in these locations will still be collected on the sale of qualifying holiday items.
Ballwin, Brentwood, Bridgeton, Clayton, Des Peres, Ellisville, Fenton, Ferguson, Frontenac, Kirkwood, Ladue, Manchester, Maplewood, Overland, Richmond Heights, St Ann, St Peters, Town & Country, University City, Webster Groves, etc. |
