Q: Is a food handler certificate required to operate a food establishment?
A: The St. Louis County Food Code requires that the person in charge of a food establishment demonstrate to the inspector food safety knowledge. One method of demonstrating food safety knowledge is to obtain a certification from an accredited program. The accredited programs are as follows: National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, Thomson Prometric, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, and ServSafe, as determined by the Conference of Food Protection.
