Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is calling lawmakers back to work early. Nixon wants those lawmakers back in Jefferson City, just after Labor Day. That is about a week earlier than already planned.
On the agenda, the so-called Aerotropolis tax credit. Nixon hopes the $360 million tax credit will make Lambert International Airport in St. Louis a hub for freight flown to China. The credits would go to companies that arrange those shipments. Counties hard-hit by losing car-assembly plants could house refrigeration facilities for some of those shipments. Plants in Hazelwood and Fenton, are just a couple places that could get that work.
Also on the agenda is local control of the St. Louis City Police Department. Right now, it is state-controlled. The Police Officer Association is now on-board instead of opposing the change. The group got a collective bargaining agreement that should protect their pensions. Officer support brought Mayor Slay one step closer to seeing the change pass the state legislature. |
