St. Louis Osuwa Taiko, the region's only Japanese drumming group, is excited to welcome its acclaimed parent group from Japan, the original Osuwa Daiko, for a joint showcase this fall.
The Oct. 8 show with Osuwa Daiko celebrates St. Louis Osuwa Taiko's 25th anniversary. The concert will be held at the William D. Purser Center at Logan College of Chiropractic at 1851 Schoettler Road in Chesterfield .
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children in advance or $20 for adults and $13 for children at the door. VIP tickets, which a prime seat and a drink, are also available for $20 for adults and children in advance and $25 at the door.
Taiko drumming is a spectacle that incorporates music, dance and martial arts movements. The art of Japanese drumming goes back thousands of years and has been used at Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines and festivals.
In the 1950s, jazz drummer Daihachi Oguchi formed Japan's original Osuwa Daiko, named after the Suwa Taisha shrine in Suwa, Japan. A quarter century ago, Grandmaster Oguchi donated drums to St. Louis, and the first St. Louis Osuwa Taiko was born.
