U CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE

UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (Oct. 11, 2010) - The City of University City is pleased to announce its participation in "Make a Difference Day", a national day of service, on Oct. 22, 2011.

The City has coordinated four family-friendly volunteer activities. These events include cleanup of River Des Peres, litter patrol of Olive Boulevard, adoption of several alleys, and assistance with a parks playground project.

University City Mayor Shelley Welsch initiated the City's participation in "Make a Difference Day". Of the day, the Mayor said, "A great way to get to know your neighbors is to work together on a project in your own community. The 'Make a Difference Day' volunteer event is a fun way to build a sense of community in the great community of U City. I encourage U City residents of all ages to give a few hours of their time to make this event a success."

University City's "Make a Difference Day" will kick off at Centennial Commons, 7210 Olive Boulevard at 8:00 a.m. with refreshments. The first 100 volunteers to arrive will receive a "Make a Difference Day" t-shirt.

Projects will be complete by 12:00 p.m.

The City is still seeking volunteers. To sign up for the event, contact the University City Department of Community Development at 314-505-8522.
