LAMBERT-ST. LOUIS AIRPORT'S "AIRPORT OF THE YEAR" AWARD

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Russ Carnahan released the following statement in response to the news that Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is being named an Airport of the Year for 2011 by the Transportation Security Administration.
"Congratulations to managers and workers at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport for this impressive national honor," Rep. Carnahan said. "Through my work on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I have had the opportunity to work closely with the dedication and professional people at Lambert and I applaud the successful partnership they have forged with the TSA and commend their diligent attention to the safety of the traveling public. Considering the challenges we faced this year, this award is all the more impressive."
In April 2011, the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport sustained major damage by powerful spring storms. Following April's tornado, Rep. Carnahan visited the airport, meeting with employees and volunteers who'd been working round the clock to expedite repairs. Rep. Carnahan reached out to elected officials and FEMA workers to ensure that all parties involved were operating quickly and seamlessly to repair the damages to the airport and surrounding region.
"The airport's effective response to the dramatic storms this past April also warrants congratulations. Their swift action prevented a dangerous situation from turning tragic," Rep. Carnahan said. "Airport leaders and workers pulled together in a time of need. I have no doubt that their strong working relationship with the TSA also greatly contributed to a quick return to normal at the largest airport in our state. Congratulations one and all."
