St. Louis A Tech Hotbed? Yes!

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - After watching its top tech talent flee for Silicon Valley or Austin, Texas for years, St. Louis is now being called a technology hotbed.

"Technology Digital" Editor Pooja Thakkar lists St. Louis among the 8 US cities that will see the biggest tech growth this year. She tells KMOX, "St. Lous is well on its way of becoming a hotbed for the tech entrepreneurs and startups."

Thakkar says what lands St. Louis on her list are new efforts to nurture startups, including the recent Startup Weekend and the recently announced Arch Grants, "St. Louis is beginning to realize that the best way to rebuild a local economy after a recession is to support enthusiastic business ideas, which can create jobs and most of those ideas are in the technology sector where creating a mobile or web-based company has become a lot easier."

Thakkar says St. Louis also benefits from its low costs of living, housing and doing business.

"The city which was once known for losing its most creative people to the likes of Silicon Valley and Austin for that matter, is proving everyone wrong."

The other cities on her list are Seattle, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, New York, Baltimore, Greensboro and San Antonio. Click here to see more on her tech hiring trends in 2012.
