Professional Indy 1 Racer Charlie Kimball set the perfect tone as the 2012 JDRF T1D Keynote Speaker. As the first and only driver with type 1 (insulin- dependent) diabetes in the history of the Indy Racing League, the relaxed, charming and handsome young man of 27 engaged the packed Millennium Hotel ballroom audience with his personal story.
More than 150 volunteers kept all 160 families (with babies, toddlers, teens parents and grandparents) headed in the right direction to sessions on diabetes care and treatment, research advances, sports/exercise/diet, special activity rooms for youngsters ages 4-12, family dynamics, insurance hurdles, vendor fair and the chance to network, make new friends and know that JDRF is always there for help and hope.
