Dean Burns to Join Real Estate Division
Veteran developer brings decades of public and private experience to County redevelopment efforts

ST. LOUIS, July 5, 2012 - Dean Burns has been named Vice President of Real Estate and Community Development at St. Louis County Economic Council. The Real Estate and Community Development division leads the revitalization of underdeveloped areas of St. Louis County. Burns joins a team responsible for promoting and facilitating land use and re-use in ways that revitalize communities and encourage business investments in the inner ring suburbs of St. Louis County.
"This is a very strategic hire. We need someone with the experience to get challenging redevelopment projects across the finish line," said Denny Coleman, president and CEO of the Economic Council. "Dean has the essential mix of public and private leadership in this field, and, as we pull out of this recession and look to redevelop certain areas, his expertise will be invaluable."
In recent years the recession has taken its toll on real estate holdings throughout St. Louis County, and subsequently many properties are vacant, obsolete or underutilized. Burns is tasked with revitalizing these areas and bringing increased opportunities to the citizens of St. Louis County.
"We stand at a pivotal moment in St. Louis history," said Burns. "I felt strongly it was time for me to be a part of the rebirth of economically strategic areas of St. Louis County. I believe I can meaningfully impact the community that I have called home for most of my life."
"We have not been immune to the problems seen all around the country: struggling malls, vacant commercial space and aging suburbs," said Andrew Ruben, senior vice president, Real Estate and Community Development. "There has never been a more important time to focus on redevelopment. The projects we tackle today will put us on the right track for decades to come in St. Louis County."
