Metro receives $5 million grant to replace buses

(July 18, 2012) The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Metro a $5 million grant to replace buses, Congressman William Lacy Clay, D-Missouri, announced Wednesday.
The project was selected on a competitive basis through the department's fiscal 2012 State of Good Repair Program.
The Bi-State Development Agency of Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District, the formal name of Metro Transit, had passenger and service revenue of $57.4 million in 2011, up 0.8 percent from $56.9 million in 2010.
The replacement vehicles are expected to be in service by mid-2014.
