2012 Missouri Botanical Garden Lantern Festival Farewell Luncheon

On Sunday, August 12, 2012, many leaders of the Chinese American community of St. Louis joined the staff and management of the Missouri Botanical Garden to bid farewell to members of LanternFest (began on May 26, their official last day at the Missouri Botanical Garden was August 19th); recognition was given especially to their two superb leaders: Spencer and June Tan. Francis Yueh and May Wu of the St Louis Chinese American News organized the wonderful buffet lunch at Mandarin House with frozen yogurt dessert from FroYo - under the chairmanship of Bill Tao, a longtime leader of the Chinese American community of St. Louis.
Including Bill, other leaders of the community - the Asian American Chamber of Commerce (George Wu), the St. Louis Chinese Association (Lin Li), the St. Louis Christian Chinese Community Service Center (Harold Law), the Organization of Chinese Americans (Thong Tarm), the St. Louis Chinese Modern School (Jing Liu), the Young Asian-American Professional Association (Chris Hseu), the Chinese Culture Days Committee (Matthew Yu) and the St. Louis Chinese American News (May Wu) all congratulated Spencer and June and the rest of LanternFest for a summer full of fabulous exhibits and dazzling displays. Leaders and staff from the Missouri Botanical Garden also attended and offered their heartfelt congratulations to the organizers of LanternFest.
Indeed, it was "Art by Day - Magic by night!" Matthew Yu summed up very well the sentiments of the community by saying that LanternFest represented the very best of Asian culture in St. Louis. At the conclusion of the farewell luncheon, Chairman Bill Tao gave everyone professionally developed photos of the Lantern Festival as mementos. Thanks must be given to Bill, Francis and May for their organization of the farewell luncheon.
LanternFest is the organization behind the Lantern Festival this summer that brought "Art by Day - Magic by Night" at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Chinese American community of St. Louis wishes LanternFest continuous success - may they return to St. Louis in the not too distant future! |
