ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The local economy is seeing "a bit of vitality" that it hasn't seen in a few years. That's the word from the head of one of St. Louis' largest companies after his visits with other corporate leaders.
In his role as United Way Campaign Chair, Peabody's Greg Boyce tries to get the pulse of the corporate community. Boyce tells KMOX
what he found was a "cautious optimism". He says that for many companies, the
first part of the year went reasonably well', "They weren't taking some of the actions they were taking back in 2009 and 2008 to manage through that financial crisis. That has allowed them to have a bit more optimistic view to do things with their employee base.
"Companies have been giving increases, they haven't been large but they've been giving increases. There hasn't been major structural reductions in our workforce."
Boyce says the most critical factor for business right now is the global economy.
