Missouri to get nearly $5.5 million from 2 lawsuit settlements

Attorney General Chris Koster announced on Thursday a settlement with three publishing companies over the price of e-books.
The Missouri Attorney General's office has announced the state will get a share of multi-million dollar settlements from lawsuits against drug makers and book publishers.
First, Missouri will receive over $4.3 million as part of a $181 million, multi-state settlement with Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Attorney General Chris Koster (D) says the company tried to market the anti-psychotic drug Risperdal to kids and the elderly, despite the FDA not approving its use for those age groups. Also, Missouri will get up to $1.1 million from a $76.5 million settlement with HarperCollins, Hachette, and Simon & Schuster. The three publishing companies are accused of illegally conspiring to inflate the cost of electronic books in the U.S.
In a separate announcement, Koster also says the state has received more than $83 million so far from the national mortgage settlement that was approved by a federal judge back in April.
