Great Rivers Greenway's new, 1.3-mile, $3.6 million asphalt trail in St. Louis.
Great Rivers Greenway, a public organization developing an interconnected system of trails and greenways, has opened a new, 1.3-mile, $3.6 million asphalt trail in St. Louis.

The trail cost $3.6 million to build and runs north from the intersection of Delmar and DeBaliviere through Porter Park and west to Skinker and Etzel. It was funded through revenue generated by a sales tax passed by voters in 2000.

This trail is a significant part of the planned St. Vincent Greenway, which will tie together NorthPark, near Interstate 70 & Hanley Road, to Forest Park when it is complete.

On Oct. 20, a groundbreaking took place on a north end extension of the trail, from Etzel to Plymouth, and Great Rivers Greenway made an announcement that the extension will be built as part of the Loop trolley project - an extension that will connect the greenway to Forest Park. The cost of the new extension is $900,000.
