(October 29, 2012) Ameren Corp. has sent close to 400 workers and contractors to the East Coast to help energy company PSE&G prepare for Hurricane Sandy.
About 50 workers from Ameren Missouri traveled to the East Coast Saturday morning. Ameren Missouri workers will aid utility crews in Somerset, N.J., Ameren spokesman Brian Bretsch said. He said an additional 50 Ameren Missouri workers are in route to the East Coast as well.
As for Ameren Illinois, 150 linemen and support staff traveled to the East Coast. In addition, 150 electric and forestry contractors have also made the trip eastward.
PSE&G have asked crews and contractors to plan to stay for up to two weeks depending on the severity of the storm damage.
According to CBS News, more than 100,000 customers have reported already being without power in Virgina, Delaware, New Jersey and several other states. The American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region has 14 regional volunteers and five emergency response vehicles heading to the East Coast. The Red Cross is opening four shelters in New Jersey.
