1st place ($7000 college scholarship) Christopher Halen (Whitfield) and Grant Riew (John Burroughs) who performed "Pachelbel Pop"
April 13, 2013/ST. LOUIS: On Friday, April 12th, twelve metro area high school acts brought the crowd to their feet at The Fabulous Fox Theatre as they poured their hearts and souls out on stage at the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition Finals. Nineteen students competed for thousands of dollars in college scholarships and special prizes. Our distinguished panel of performing arts professionals - with careers spanning film, TV and Broadway - had the difficult job of judging the acts.

Technical ability, stage presence, interpretation and originality were all taken into consideration to choose the following students for the top honors: 1st place ($7000 college scholarship) went to Christopher Halen (Whitfield) and Grant Riew (John Burroughs) who performed "Pachelbel Pop". 2nd place ($5000 college scholarship) went to D. Kenneth Tate (homeschooled) and A. Joseph Smith (Webster Groves High School) for performing their original composition "The Great Rapsby." There was a three-way tie for 3rd place with $3000 scholarships going to classical violinist John Li of MICDS, hip-hop dancers "Super Sick Crew" of Hazelwood East High School and to homeschooled ballet dancer Mikaiah Krueger

Several special awards went to finalists and semi-finalists including new opportunities from The Muny and STAGES for Summer 2013 performance opportunities. Special thanks to all of our donors for funding the awards. A list of all prize winners can be found at the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation website. The group of nineteen finalists will also have the opportunity to perform at a variety of events around the metro area over the upcoming year, giving them great additions to their professional resume.

Yvonne Meyer Hare (Professional Dance Center) choreographed and Tony Parise (Broadway actor/director) wrote and directed the Broadway-style event which included performances by last year's first place winners "The Cotton Club" and the Fox Tellerettes while emcee Ben Nordstrom (Kevin Kline Award winner) kept the program running smoothly with humor and song.

The Finals were videotaped by The Nine Network for a special St. Louis Teen Talent Competition program to be aired on Tuesday, May 14th at 7 p.m. This special presentation will increase the awareness of our Competition and the talented teens in our metro area, hopefully inspiring other communities to follow suit. The success of the previous three events has secured a 4th Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition at The Fox on April 4, 2014. So teens…start practicing! We can't wait to see what you have in store for us next year!

3rd Place John Li (MICDS) FINALISTS and Special Scholarships, Awards & Prizes "STAGES St. Louis Opportunity" winner Yvette Lu (Parkway West H.S.)
