Spring Gardening Help From The Missouri Botanical Garden

Now that it appears that Spring has arrived in the St. Louis region, the thoughts of many residents are turning to gardening. Efforts thus far have been frustrating for many because of the varying temperatures and large amount of rain. Many have delayed their Spring planting, and those who haven't may find that the few warm days caused vegetables to flower prematurely and that the cold temperatures at night have harmed them.
The Missouri Botanical Garden's Kemper Center for Home Gardening offers many resources for the home gardener. Among them is the Horticulture Answer Service which is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until Noon at (314) 577-5143. The Kemper Center also offers gardening classes and a wide variety of help on its website.
Kemper Center horticulturists June Hutson and Elizabeth Spiegel were Don Marsh's guests on St. Louis on the Air to discuss gardening issues ranging from growing tomatoes, grapes, asparagus, bamboo and zoysia to pruning roses and getting rid of moles, and to answer questions from listeners.
