Express Scripts Expected to Add Jobs, Expand Facility in St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS, JUNE 20, 2013 -- Express Scripts Holding Company, the nation's leading pharmacy benefit manager, is expected to build a 220,000 square foot building on its existing campus in St. Louis County and also add up to 1,500 jobs between now and 2018, it was announced today.
Express Scripts is responsible for the pharmacy benefit for more than 100 million Americans and managed 1.4 billion prescriptions last year alone. The company applies technology to the practice of pharmacy to make the use of prescription drugs safer and more affordable.
The expansion project is speculative at this time and the company's decision to move forward is subject to ongoing due diligence and receipt of approvals from the State of Missouri and St. Louis County. The total cost of constructing and equipping the office is estimated at $56 million.
"Missouri's economy continues to expand, thanks to our trained workforce, low taxes and excellent quality of life," Gov. Jay Nixon said. "Today's announcement that Express Scripts is planning to create a significant number of new jobs in the St. Louis area is another positive step forward for Missouri's economy. I applaud Express Scripts for its continued commitment to, and investment in, the state of Missouri."
"Once approved, this expansion could have a massive impact on the St. Louis economy. Express Scripts will bring new talent to the region and this project will provide major opportunities for the talented workforce already here", said St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley. "To have our region's largest company continually growing here in this community says a lot about where we are headed."
The state of Missouri is working with Express Scripts to identify applicable economic incentives, which the company can redeem if it meets the strict job creation and investment criteria for each program. |
