Regional Arts Commission Announces the 2013 Innovation
Fund to Encourage New Initiatives by Cultural Organizations |

St. Louis - July 22, 2013 - The Regional Arts Commission (RAC), committed to elevating the vitality, value and visibility of the arts, has announced the 2013 RAC Innovation Fund. Grants made through the fund are designed to enable cultural organizations to develop new initiatives that may be experimental.
Jill McGuire, executive director of RAC, said, "The number one priority in RAC's strategic visionary plan is "Vitality: To grow the arts sector in the St. Louis community." Innovation will play an important role in advancing our visionary plan and creating a robust future for the arts in St. Louis. These grants will give organizations the freedom to take a calculated risk and stretch the organization."
RAC will award grants of up to $100,000 for innovation, which is defined in the guidelines as transformative change that represents a shift artistically or organizationally.
There are two categories of grants available. Innovative Projects and Initiatives will provide support for a broad range of new projects, including (but not limited to) artistic innovation, technical innovation, audience development, community engagement, community outreach, diverse partnerships and collaborations, creative place-making and entrepreneurial enterprises.
The Advancement category will provide funding for initiatives designed to strengthen capacity and management of organizations including (but not limited to) information systems, marketing, management/organizational structure, financial management and sustainability.
The grants are open to any nonprofit arts organization or consortiums. Those groups that have received RAC funding within the past four years will receive priority consideration.
To start the application process, a letter of intent should be sent to
innovation@stlrac.org or mailed to Innovation Grants, Regional Arts Commission, 6128 Delmar Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63112. Those invited to submit a full proposal will be notified by September 4th, and proposals will be due October 2nd. The grants will be reviewed by the RAC staff and the Commission Grants Committee and then approved by the full Commission.
