Zoo posts record membership |

Membership at the Saint Louis Zoo increased 11 percent this year to 53,836, which is 20 percent above the zoo's five-year average membership total.
In addition to record membership levels, the zoo also reported it has more than 1,000 Marlin Perkins Society Donors, who annually contribute $1,000 or more to the zoo.
The 11 percent increase in membership represents approximately $200,000 more in membership revenue. The membership funds go toward covering general operating expenses at the zoo with a focus on animal care, zoo spokeswoman Susan Gallagher said.
Later this month, the zoo will close the penguins and puffins exhibit, and it will remain closed until 2015 as construction begins on an $18 million polar bear habitat. McDonnell Polar Bear Point will encompass more than 7,000 square feet and will be able to hold up to five polar bears. |
