St. Louis Joins Cities Around The World In Public Art Project 'Before I Die'

Starting August 31, 2013, Craft Alliance asks St. Louisans to answer the question, "What do you want to do before you die?"
It's part of an international art project called "Before I die..." in which the public is invited to write their hopes and dreams in chalk on a wall for all passing by to see. Hundreds of cities around the world have their own chalkboard wall. It was started in 2011 in New Orleans by Cindy Chang after she lost a loved one.
The Before I Die wall in St. Louis will be located on the eastern wall of the Craft Alliance building in Delmar Loop. It is being installed by local artist Robert Fishbone, muralist and illustrator Chelsea Ritter-Soronen and others from the St. Louis Mural Project.
Fishbone, Ritter-Soronen and Boo McLoughlin, executive director of Craft Alliance, were guests on the show. They said photos of other walls around the world have a sameness to them despite being in multiple languages, partly because the responses come from the heart, simultaneously being universal and unique.
St. Louis Public Radio asked its Facebook followers what they want to do before they die, and the responses varied from the playful to the noble: one said she wanted to kiss George Clooney, another said he wanted to witness complete and actual world peace.
