Boeing Co. reportedly has secured commitments from multiple Chinese customers for about 200 of its 737 Max aircraft.

The deals, which must still be approved by the Chinese government before the customers can be identified, are worth an estimated $20.7 billion, sources told Reuters. The purchases would represent the first commitments for the 737, which are an upgraded version of Boeing's best-selling short-haul planes, from China.

Customers interested in buying the planes range from state-owned airlines to leasing firms associated with the country's banks, Reuters reports.

Boeing Defense, Space and Security, based in Hazelwood, is a $33 billion business of Chicago-based Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA), with 15,110 full-time local employees.
