Magic House to develop China exhibit

The Magic House has been selected as one of five U.S. children's museums that will develop traveling exhibits on Asian culture.
The exhibit by the children's museum in Kirkwood, Confucius' China, will highlight rituals and customs found in modern China. The exhibit is scheduled to open in February 2015 and most likely will run through midsummer that year, officials said.
The Magic House received about $750,000 to create the exhibit, according to Carrie Hutchcraft, director of communications.
The funding came from the Honolulu-based Freeman Foundation, which distributed $6 million total for the five exhibits, which focus on Asian cultures also representing Japan, Korea and Vietnam. The Association of Children's Museums is administering the funding for the Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series.
After leaving the Magic House, the Confucius' China exhibit will travel to a minimum of eight additional children's museums through 2018, although that might be extended. The other four traveling exhibits in the series are not scheduled to visit The Magic House, according to Hutchcraft.
"We see over 550,000 visitors each year, and attribute much of that traffic to our ongoing exhibit content," Hutchcraft said.
The Magic House, led by President Beth Fitzgerald, reported revenue of $3 million on expenses of $3.4 million in 2012, according to the nonprofit's most recent available tax filing. (St. Louis Business Journal)
