St. Louis Chinese Culture Association held its first board meeting Bylaws revision and future activities were major agenda. By Scanews staff On the evening of December 13, thirteen board members of the St. Louis Chinese Culture Association (CCA) attended its first board meeting after almost two years in recess. The unlucky number of 13 proved to have no effects on the new group and many members accepted appointments to head various sub-committees. The designated duties include Huey-sheng Shieh as President, Ching-ling Tai as Vice-president, Leslie Cheng as Secretary, Sandy Teng as Treasurer. Kwang-chung Hou responsible for public relations, Donald Lee for promoting cultural events, and Daniel Ku in charge of social events. Tao P. Li will put his efforts to recruiting new members and Helena Hseu will work for fund-raising. Due to many accumulated assets, Cheng-yu Teng will input information into a data bank to keep records of various belongings that the CCA either purchased or were given in the past. Many books, movies and video tapes will be available in the future for members' use. There was a heated discussion concerning to the CCA's mission statement. Many expressed opinions about whether or not the CCA should clearly define its position with the Republic of China. According to by-laws, a quota of two-thirds of board members (18 votes) is required for any revision. The decision was tabled to use mail-in ballots for a final call in the future. Board members passed the motion of carrying on the tradition of the flag raising ceremony on New Year's Day. The location will be Baily International Inc. at 8041 Olive Blvd at 9 A.M., rain or shine. The occasion provides an opportunity for everyone to exchange greetings and to renew friendships. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome. The second activity will be a speech on Taiwanese culture in February. More details will be announced at a later date. The CCA will resume its cultural series which were very pupular in the past. Additional plans include a Chinese New Year celebration and hosting native Chinese performing arts troupes for stage shows, etc. Under new leadership, the CCA will not only generate enthusiasm among its members, but engage in promoting Chinese culture and provide cultural and social events for the general public.
