B&T Team Reaches Goal For Olive Blvd

The formation of the Olive Business Association represents the culmination of a year of meetings supported by the U-City East Business and Transportation Committee designed to create a group along Olive Blvd that would take an interest in the development of Olive Blvd. comparable to the Loop Special Business District.  

¡§When we first invited the businesses to a meeting last October, we discovered that they were not in favor of a special taxing district.  As we began to dialogue, we discovered that there was an interest in forming an organization that would be concerned with the overall quality of the ¡§stretch¡¨ of Olive in University City,¡¨ said B&T Chair Najah Haqiqah.  ¡§We began working on issues that these businesses had in common through our Community Issues Forum Series.  We were then able to continue the momentum which has lead to the formalization of the Olive Street businesses, formerly referred to as the Olive Street Business Organization into the Olive Business Association.  ¡§

¡¨Hosting the first annual meeting of the Olive businesses just seemed the natural thing to do,¡¨ said Joe Palm co-Chairperson of the B&T Team.  ¡§It gave us an opportunity to celebrate the work we had done on Olive and it gave the businesses the opportunity to take this initiative to the next level.¡¨

U-City East is a community organization that promotes the goals stated in an Action Plan that was developed in 1999 by University City residents, entrepreneurs, and educators.  This initiative, to develop a health community, is funded by the Daughters of Charity.
