"My parents just don't understand me!" By Michi Fu Graduate Student, Hawaii University Have you ever heard yourself saying this phrase as a result of a disagreement with one of your parents? Or, as a parent do you have difficulty communicating with your children? You may be one of the hundreds of others who may experience the same issues as a result of language barrier, cultural differences, and differences in life choices. I am Michi Fu, a Chinese American psychology graduate student. I want to help children and parents of Chinese immigrant households get along with one another better. I am conducting a research study for my doctoral dissertation and am looking for American Born Chinese (ABC) to participate in my study. I want to see if parents and kids have difficulty getting along the more Americanized kids are and the more traditional parents are. I am looking for: - ABC's over the age of 18 - whose parents immigrated over here from Asia - English speaking - willing to volunteer 15-30 minutes of your time to fill out surveys. If you are an ABC and would like to help, or know of others who might be able to participate, here's how: * my survey is available online at www2.hawaii.edu/~michi, or online at St. Louis Chinese American News website at www.Scanews.com, on the top right hand corner. * I can also mail you a copy of my surveys (w/ return postage) if you'd prefer Thank you in advance for your interest and cooperation. Be on the watch in the months ahead for the results from this study. You could be part of this national research project! Also thanks to the St. Louis Chinese American News and the Chinese Culture and Education Foundation to support this study. If you have any questions about this study, you can contact me at: fu_michi@hotmail.com or (808) 956-4610 or Scanews at (314) 432-3858. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
