Home Heating Assistance Applications Being Accepted Now

JEFFERSON CITY - The Department of Social Services, Division of Family
Services offices across Missouri are now accepting applications for home
heating assistance. Assistance is provided under the Low Income Home Energy
Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

	As Elderly Advocate for the State of Missouri, Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell is
encouraging all Missouri senior citizens who think they might have to choose
between heat or another necessity, such as their medication, to apply
immediately. "If any senior thinks they might not be able to afford heat
through the winter, they should not hesitate to apply," Maxwell said.

	Applications for the program will be accepted until March 31, 2003, so long
as funds are available. Eligibility for LIHEAP is based on household income,
resources, and the number of people living in the home. The amount of
benefits received is based on the type of fuel used for heating and the area
of the state in which the applicant lives.
