Ambassador Daniel (Yu-tang D.) Lew will address the Principia students and faculty on March 4

Daniel Lew was the last ambassador from Taiwan at the United Nations, prior to the assumption of that seat by China/PRC in 1971.  He's has had a fascinating career, still in progress, as the publisher of the Sino-American Journal, which he writes/edits 4 times a year.  Daniel holds a Ph.D. from Harvard, was secretary to the prime minister of China (Nanjing), before Chiang Kai shek left for Taiwan, private secretary to the Chinese ambassador to the United States. Daniel Lew will visit Principia and to address its campus on "China, Taiwan and the United States: Three's a Charm". 

Principia is the only college campus in the U.S. which is a National Historic Landmark.  The campus was designed by one of America's top 10 architects Bernard Maybeck from California in the 1930.  Maybeck designed the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts, one of his finest and best known commissions.  Principia is his largest commission, and a lovely site it is, high above the Mississippi River, and fronting ol' Man River for 4 miles.
