The musical CELEBRATION presented by the SLUH Dauphin Players

CELEBRATION was written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, the team that
also wrote: THE FANTASTICKS, I DO! I DO!, and 110 IN THE SHADE. The show is
described as "A musical about Winter". It is a ritual musical about the
conflicts of good vs. evil, youth vs. old age, and big business vs. the
common man.  

The story is about a young man, Orphan (junior Brandon Bieber), who comes to the
mansion of Mr. Rich (sophomore Peter Gosik) on New Year's Eve.  Guided by Potemkin (junior Alan Naylor), a man who has experienced just about everything, Orphan has come to ask Mr. Rich to stop the destruction of the Orphanage and its garden in which he was raised. It is Mr. Rich's plan to tear down the building and erect a modern strip mall.  While at Mr. Rich's Orphan meets a female entertainer name Angel (Kirkwood junior Jen Sheehan).  He falls
in love with her.  Mr. Rich also has plans for her. So Orphan has to also rescue her. 

St. Louis University High School presented CELEBRATION once before, in 1970.  
The play was a hit, selling out for two weekends and extending for an additional weekend.  The production was then chosen by the International Thespian Society for
presentation at its yearly convention that Summer at Indiana University.
Attending the performance that evening were the authors of the musical.  It
was a thrill for all involved. 

2002 Celebration opened on February 14 and continue throughout the weekend to February 17.
