The buck does funny things when the does are present.

The word 'does' is used twice with different meanings and sounds.

1 - say deuz.  This is a form of the word do, meaning to act.

2 - say douz.  It means a female deer. 

Another way to say this is:

The buck acts peculiarly when the female deer is nearby

or 

Male deer are protective of female deer in their territory during mating season.
