Frank Ollendorff, City Manager of U City, presented Proposition K at OBA

	The Olive Business Association is coming to life.  At its most recent meeting on October 8 Frank Ollendorff, City Manager of University City, presented the city's plans for a larger, improved Recreation Complex in Heman Park.  Proposition K, as it is titled, will be on the November 5 ballot.  It asks for a sales tax increase of 1/4 of 1 percent (25 cents on every $100) on every purchase in University City.  Income of about $500,000 each year will pay for swimming pool, fitness center and gymnasium enlargement, improvements and maintenance into the future. 
       
	Olive Street Road, he said, will attract many new users to the northern business district of U. City.  Recreation facilities will be paid for by shoppers in the newly revitalized stores, not just by U. City residents.  
       
	Memberships for use of the recreation facilities will continue to be much lower than those of other nearby areas. These modern facilities will be available through memberships for merchants and their employees as well as U. City residents.
       
	Rita Days, newly elected Missouri State Senator, came to the meeting and stayed afterward to mix with the members.  She will be the only candidate for that office on the November ballot, and she will be sworn into office at the beginning of January, 2003.  Until then, she said, she will attend all OBA meetings.  She must be in Jefferson City in the legislature after that date, but she will always be available  to listen to OBA concerns.  
       
	Chairperson Lynn Rossel read a list of Members and Associates of the OBA who were new since the September meeting.  Charles Klotzer and Dan Savory, co-chair of the association, discussed costs of the up-coming Newsletter.  It should be available in area stores as part of public relations to local businesses and customers.
       
	Monica Graves, Business and Transportation Committee of U. City East, reported that Business Expo 2003 is taking shape in the Olive Street area.
       
	Much information was included in the hour and a half meeting.  The November meeting will be held November 12 at the University City Community Center.  Come and be part of this renewing area.
