Glasshopper Studio LLC at Olive

My wife, Leslie Leipziger, started a company in 1998 called Glasshopper
Studio LLC in our house.  It has just moved to a new location at 12935 Olive, St. Louis, Mo 63141. 

This is a unique shop in the St. Louis Metro area. The front of the shop
is comprised of a retail area that features fused glass plates and
artwork made by Leslie and other contributing artists, handmade glass
beads made by Leslie and other contributing artists, crystal beads,
turquoise beads, stone beads, Bali beads, silver and gold-filled clasps,
findings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and other jewelry. As you move
further into the store, there is a an art studio with a fused glass
preparation area, eight glass bead preparation booths (fully vented to
the exterior), and cabinets holding glass products that are sold in the
studio.

Eight different types of classes are offered in the studio area:
1. Fusing glass plates and designing glass art by cutting glass and
melting it in a kiln into the desired shape.
2. Glass bead making in a lamp work flame by melting glass rods.
3. Crafting fine silver jewelry by a new process developed in Japan
called Precious Metal Clay or Art Clay.
4. Wire bending classes to produce jewelry and other items.
5. Jewelry making using peyote stitch utilizing very small beads.
6. Making beaded jewelry on a loom.
7. Making beaded jewelry using a "netting" process.
8. A children’s class is offered.

The Studio carries every color of guaranteed fusible glass made by the
Bullseye Co., the largest supplier of this type of glass in the USA.
The shop carries all of the supplies and materials necessary for all of
the classes in addition to a complete line of books devoted to the types
of art and materials demonstrated in the studio.

The Studio also offers "open studio time" to artists and students that
wish to use the equipment that the shop has to offer while making their
pieces.  The open studio patrons are offered complimentary soft drinks
and coffee.  It is open seven days a week with morning and evening
hours.  The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed; a party atmosphere.  The participants enjoy helping each other and exchanging experiences.

There is another area in which customers may assemble jewelry using the
products that they make or buy.  Instruction is given free of charge,
time permitting.  The studio is sometimes rented out for private fusing and bead making parties that are supervised by an artist.
