U. City is now officially solidly supporting the Olive Business Association

       Lynn Rossel, Co-chairperson, opened the September 10 monthly meeting of the Olive Business Association.  Her first order of business was the presentation of Frank Ollendorff, City Manager of University City.  He announced that U. City is now officially solidly supporting the OBA.  He will attend meetings frequently in the future so that he and business owners can speak face to face.   An exchange of ideas and planning will help move the revitalized Olive Business Association forward.  Money spent will largely come from the OBA itself, so it will be controlling its own future.  Mr. Ollendorff wants the OBA to succeed, much as the U. City Loop has done in the southeast area.

       Mr. Ollendorff urged the group to hurry to choose an effective slogan and logo, so the City can begin helping to publicize them.  If the logo includes the official U. City Lion, the City will contribute $2000 toward production of street banners.

       A new Assistant City Manager is being selected from candidates who have applied for the position to replace Julie Szymula, who has accepted the position of City Manager of another city.  

       Shelley Welsch, City Council member, repeated the need for speed in completing the logo and slogan decisions.  Several ideas have been proposed, and the OBA asks all who have creative ideas for the Olive Street Road business area name and/or logo to get them to Lynn Rossel, at Roscoe Electric, or to Ralph Broeker, at Royal Bank, as soon as possible.  Something short, snappy, and descriptive, encouraging people to visit the shopping area, would be appropriate.

       Ralph Broeker handed out membership forms and Business Directory applications.  Dan Savory, Olive Meat market and Deli, Co-chairperson, has been speaking with a printer regarding production of the directory.

       Members and visitors discussed local issues, including future alternative transportation for shoppers along Olive Street Road.  The November U. City voteon a sales tax increase for park and swimming pool improvements was of interest.

       Mrs. Jen Jensen, local resident, has been shopping along Olive Street Road for many years.  She would like to see the OBA get started with its public operations.  She knows more businesses will join as the organization grows.

       The OBA will soon be hiring a producer for its Newsletter, it was announced.  Businesses along Olive Street Road will be pleased with it.

       The next meeting will be held October 8 at the Community Center.  Meetings begin at 6:00 P.M.  A light meal is served, and the session should be finished by 8:00 P.M.  Business representatives are invited to attend and bring along others with them.
