Distinguished conductor, Jahja Ling, returns to Powell Symphony Hall to conduct the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the young, accomplished pianist, Eduardus Halim, at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5.  The concerts feature Chabrier's Habaņera, Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain, Liszt's Totentanz, and Sibelius' popular Symphony No. 2.  Hugh MacDonald, professor of music at Washington University, presents a pre-concert lecture to all ticket holders one hour before the start of each concert.
Maestro Ling is director of the Cleveland Orchestra's Blossom Festival, Conductor Laureate of The Florida Orchestra, and holds the title of Honorary Conductor of Taiwan's National Symphony Orchestra.  In addition he recently completed 18 years as the Cleveland Orchestra's Resident Conductor.  Pianist Eduardus Halim made his New York debut in 1987 while still a student at Juilliard.  His exceptional talent evidenced in performances with major international orchestras and festivals has continually earned him the admiration of critics.
