【羅院長的序譯文】


　　我的童年是在小農莊上度過的，生活很是簡樸。在那裡，家人的愛包圍我，我也學到責任感與辛勤幹活兒。我們是個基督徒家族，每天都要讀聖經，在家族的愛裡，我知道我是受到祝福而來的，我也要成為別人的祝福。因著上帝的愛，我必須將這份愛傳達出去。

　　在台灣的這四十年，我不斷經歷到，我給出去的愛總會源源不絕地再向我湧來──從病人那兒，從我的同事那兒，以及無數的台灣朋友那兒。看到我曾經共事的醫師和合作伙伴，各自在他們的專業領域裡獨領風騷，那真是很大的滿足。看著我的小病人成長、上學、變成對社會有用的人，更是無比的喜悅。這些都讓我更加深信「愛能彌補（Love Makes Whole.）」。

　　二次世界大戰時，德國紐倫堡（Nuremberg）一座教堂遭到轟炸，幾乎全毀，唯有一座基督雕像仍然完好，只是基督的手不見了。戰後教堂重建，一位藝術家受邀為基督重建雙手。雕塑家試了又試，卻總是無法塑回基督的手。最後他放棄了。在雕像的底座，雕塑家寫下一行字：「祂沒有雙手，但你們有。」

　　我曾使用我的雙手，試著在愛中治癒別人，不論是他們殘破的心、靈或是身體。（梁玉芳譯）

Preface

As a child, I grew up living very simply in a small farming community. There I experienced the love of my family who taught me responsibility and hard work. Since I was brought up in a Christian home where we read the Bible daily, I learned I was “blessed to be a blessing.” Because of God’s love for me, I must reach in love to others.

Throughout these past 40 years in Taiwan, I have experienced that any love I gave to others has come back to me over and over again through my patients, my co-workers and hundreds of Chinese friends. It is the satisfaction of seeing doctors and others that I have been associated with become successful leaders in their professions. I find a great joy in seeing patients grow up, become educated, and then make meaningful contributions to their society. It is true that “Love Makes Whole”.

In the city of Nuremberg Germany, there is statue of Christ in a Cathedral that was bombed during World War II. The Cathedral was almost destroyed but the statue of Christ remained intact. Only the hands of Christ were missing. The cathedral was restored and an artist was commissioned to restore the hands of Christ. The sculptor tried and tried to repair the hand but finally gave up on his efforts. At the base of the statue, the sculptor wrote, “He has no hands but yours”.

I have tried to use my hands in love to heal others with broken hearts, minds and bodies.
